Oxford vs Crewe Match Report

Oxford United won their second home game in a row to go 5th, after a James Henry penalty in the 33rd minute turned out to be the winner. After conceding penalties against Cambridge and Charlton, it was the U’s turn to get a penalty as they secured back to back victories in League One.

Crewe gave a battling performance, but Oxford stayed in control with a fine performance with manager Karl Robinson rotating his team and utilising the squad players available. Billy Bodin was brought into the team and he made a nuisance of himself, firing a shot over before being brought down by Thomas for referee Madley to point to the spot.

James Henry missed the last set of penalties in the Burton game, but calmly despatched it into the roof of the net to open the scoring. Highlighting the squad depth, Henry joins Seddon, Holland, Williams and Brannagan as top scorer on one goal, meaning all five goals have been scored by different players.

Bodin almost set up Taylor for a second, but it was 1-0 at half time.

Back up right back Williams then had to come off injured, and with Forde still out, centre back McNally filled in. But the U’s still looked comfortable as Agyei should have put the game to bed. After surviving a couple of late Crewe chances, the full time whistle brought relief and another 3 points.
