Angela Barnes (Mock The Week, Live at the Apollo, 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown and former chair of BBC Radio 4’s The News Quiz) brings her 2023 UK Tour Hot Mess to Oxford’s North Wall Arts Centre on Friday 3rd March.
Barnes describes new show, Hot Mess, as a “jokes but with a bit of heart”, as she reflects on marriage (she married in 2021), having ADHD, being non-essential during the pandemic and much more.
Angela Barnes swapped a career in health and social care for stand-up in 2010 and hasn’t looked back. Within just a couple of years she had won the BBC New Comedy Award, and progressed to UK tours and starring as a regular on BBC’s Mock the Week and Live at the Apollo, and Hypothetical on Dave.
Fans of Mock the Week will know that with 38 episodes in the history of the 17 years of the show, Barnes was the highest female panellist for appearances. The first was in 2014 and contributed to her growing success in the comedy circuit with her style of observation comedy on her own life.
She is a firm favourite on BBC Radio 4, having featured on The Now Show and The News Quiz – including a recent stint as the host – and she has also hosted BBC Radio 4 Extra’s Newsjack. Besides this, Angela co-hosts the popular podcast We Are History with John O’Farrell (Acast).
Angela is from Maidstone, but studied at the University of Sussex in Brighton and still lives in the city. She started performing comedy in 2008, and won the BBC Radio 2’s New Comedy Award in 2011.
