Oxfordshire Residents Recognised in the New Year Honours List

24 Residents and workers in Oxfordshire have been recognised in King Charles’ first New Year Honours list.

1,107 Recipients in the New Year Honours List have been awarded for their outstanding contributions across all parts of the UK for their work on areas including sustained public service, youth engagement and community work.

The honours system has 5 classes of appointment to the Order of the British Empire and in order of importance are:

  • Knight Grand Cross or Dame Grand Cross of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (GBE)
  • Knight Commander or Dame Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (KBE or DBE)
  • Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE)
  • Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE)
  • Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE)

There is representation across Oxfordshire in the senior ranks with Oxford Universities Professor Dame Hermione Lee awarded the GBE for services to English Literature. And Dame Sally Dicketts is awarded the DBE for services to Education.
