Newbury Athletics Club is delighted to announce the long awaited return of the Newbury 10km distance running race in nearby Berkshire. After a four year wait, on Monday 29 May 2023, the local athletics club will be hosting the race, which offers shorter options for junior runners as well.
“We are thrilled to offer this running event once again”, said Jeff Bird, Race Director at Newbury Athletics Club. “It was always hugely popular, attracting people from not only Newbury and Berkshire but also our surrounding counties. Huge thanks must go to our sponsors, Newbury BID (Business Improvement District) and our local landowners for their support and making it all possible.”
2023 will mark the 13th staging of the event and the first since 2019. It will feature the hallmark 10km adult race, as well as race distances for juniors, a new charity alliance with Berkshire Youth, as well as new sponsors, including Stryker and Gardner Leader Solicitors.
The 2023 event will raise funds for an important local charity Berkshire Youth, an organisation that supports young people to transition from childhood to young adulthood through affordable and engaging leisure activities. Profits from the races will be shared with Berkshire Youth to help them continue their work in helping young people grow and reach their full potential.
Jeff Bird explains: “We welcome entries from runners of all abilities, from novices to experienced athletes. This is very much an opportunity for any type of runner”. Participants will set off from the start line in the heart of the town, in a supporter-friendly closed road environment. 10km runners will then venture out into the beautiful local countryside before enjoying a flat return to the high street via the tow path of the Kennet and Avon Canal. The two junior races for under 16s will take place on closed roads in the town centre. All events are chip timed.
Entries are now open and must be made in advance. Details can be found on the Newbury Athletics website https://www.newburyac.org.uk/road-running/newbury10k and runbritain.com/races.
