Barton can look forward to enjoying a new community facility now that ODS has completed the construction of a graffiti wall.
ODS carried out the work at for Barton Community Association, keeping the cost to a minimum as part of their aim of doing good and helping the community. They’ve constructed an 8ft by 8ft wall that will serve as a blank canvas for the local artists who will now be invited by the community association to make their mark.
With the wall open for local artists to make use of, the hope is that there will be less anti-social graffiti elsewhere for the council to clean up and so costs will be saved and diverted to other projects to support the community
Councillor Mary Clarkson, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Tourism, said: “This will be a fine addition to the Barton area and I look forward to seeing the creative contributions that local artists will make to the wall. With this in place I hope we’ll see a reduction in unwanted graffiti in other parts of Barton. I want to thank ODS for creating this facility for the community association – well done ODS!”
Sue Holden from Barton Community Association, which will be managing the site, said: “Barton Community Association was really pleased to be able to work in partnership with ODS on this project and the end result is fantastic. It will provide a great community resource for Barton and will provoke lots of great artistic work from local residents, young and old alike.”
Gunther Kniebe, estimator at ODS, said: “The work carried out for Barton Community Association to create the community art wall has been a real team effort. Everyone has come together and worked hard, doing good to support the community, to provide a great resource for local artists in Barton.”
There are two other graffiti wall sites in the city, both managed by the City Council. They are located at the top of South Park and the skate park on Meadow Lane.
